Material Comparison
Schedule 40 vs. Schedule 80 Pipe
Schedule designations relate to pipe wall thickness for a given nominal size; Schedule 80 is generally heavier-walled than Schedule 40 for the same nominal size.
What to consider
- Do not compare schedules without also identifying nominal pipe size and material standard.
- A heavier wall changes inside diameter, weight, cost and pressure capability.
- Structural use, pressure service and fabrication needs may drive different selection criteria.
- Use the project specification or engineering requirement rather than assuming a heavier schedule is automatically better.
How to request material
For the fastest quote, send the exact material description, dimensions, grade/specification if known, quantity, required processing, delivery or pickup requirements, and the date the material is needed. Drawings, cut lists and project specifications reduce ambiguity.
Availability and sourcing
Steel & Pipe Supply carries stock material and can source additional products through its distribution network. A product appearing in this resource library does not mean every size or grade is physically stocked in Tampa. Current price, manufacturer, availability and lead time are confirmed against the actual request.
